Developmental Specialist 2 – Career Opportunities in Nevada
The Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) is currently recruiting for a full‑time Developmental Specialist 2 position in Carson City, Reno and Las Vegas. This role supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities—including autism, seizure disorders and cerebral palsy—across the state’s single‑service regional centers (Sierra, Desert, Rural, and Youth Intensive Support Services).
Job SummaryResponsibilities include developing, coordinating and monitoring individualized support plans; providing case management; treating behavioral challenges; developing training curriculum; supervising staff; providing crisis intervention; and collaborating with community agencies.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement individualized support plans for 45–55 clients in home, clinic, hospital, residential, outpatient or community settings.
- Provide case management services, coordinate supports and monitor progress toward client and family goals.
- Assess individuals using appropriate tools, evaluate eligibility for services and document outcomes.
- Design, deliver and evaluate treatment and service plans in collaboration with families and care providers.
- Supervise lower‑level professional, paraprofessional and support staff, teachers, university students and volunteers.
- Coordinate and facilitate services with external agencies, negotiate contracts, monitor provider quality and ensure accurate billing.
- Provide crisis intervention, emergency response, and coordinate respite services as needed.
- Conduct home visits, prepare reports, and submit necessary documentation to courts and other agencies.
- Develop and present training curriculum on early childhood development and parenting skills.
- Participate in grant writing, program review teams, and community partnership initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree in early childhood, special education, human growth and development, psychology, counseling, social work or a closely related field.
- One year of professional experience providing developmental, special education or intervention services to individuals at risk for developmental delays or disabilities; or equivalent experience as a Developmental Specialist I in Nevada State service.
- Ability to work independently, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and travel within the Reno/Sparks, Carson City or Las Vegas area.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and proficiency with case management software.
Working knowledge of:
- Human growth and development
- Behavior management techniques
General knowledge of:
- Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Americans with Disabilities Act and related laws
- Client rights and confidentiality principles
- Developmental skills such as fine and gross motor, social skills, communication, cognition, and self‑help
- Case management practices, treatment team dynamics and crisis intervention techniques
- Common medical and psychotropic medication issues related to disabilities
- Family dynamics, cultural awareness, and community systems including schools, social security, courts, Medicaid and local agencies
- Effective communication among colleagues, clients and community partners
Ability to:
- Analyze and interpret client functioning levels
- Recommend and implement therapeutic/developmental intervention strategies
- Facilitate access to community services and resources for clients and families
