Medical Technologist

Responsibilities

• Communicate accurate and clinically relevant information with patients, families, and co‑workers during hand‑offs and other interactions.
• Ensure all necessary parties receive the information required for optimal patient outcomes.
• Properly identify patients and samples during the pre‑analytical, analytical, and post‑analytical phases.
• Perform analyses on a variety of biological specimens including blood, urine, stool, body fluids, and tissues.
• Perform, evaluate, and document calibration and quality control; resolve issues as needed.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and resolve issues with assays and instruments.
• Follow laboratory procedures for test analysis, reporting, and record keeping of patient results.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with physicians, nurses, other medical personnel, patients, and families.
• Prioritize workload to ensure timely reporting of results.
• Maintain and improve skills by participating in at least one continuing education activity annually.
• Actively seek and identify opportunities for process improvement.
• Assist in procedure writing, updating, and validating.
• Act as a resource for laboratory medicine information to providers and others.
• Use the laboratory information system to access information, enter results, and generate reports.

• Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
• Required certifications: ASCP, IMLS, MLS(ASCPi), NCA, AMT, MT (AMT) or MT (HEW).
• Willingness to work night shift (9 pm‑7:30 am) and day shifts, weekends, holidays, or on call as needed.
• Post‑offer drug screen required.

Shift: Night shift (9 pm‑7:30 am); day shifts, weekends, holidays, and on‑call duties as required.

Hansen Family Hospital, Iowa Falls, IA.
