Position

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Pharmacist – EC (Emergency Care) Critical Care, Theatres and Anaesthetics within our Pharmacy Department based across both University Hospital Ayr and University Hospital Crosshouse sites.

Hours

36 hours per week

Core hours 08:30 – 16:30 Monday – Friday (with three working days 30mins shorter). The post-holder shall participate in weekend working, public holiday working and supporting the late night rota across dispensaries.

This post is offered on a permanent basis.

UK Driving Licence

A UK driving licence is essential for this role.

What You Will Do

The successful candidate will co‑lead the delivery and ongoing development of clinical pharmacy services across Emergency Care (Combined Assessment units and Emergency Departments) and Critical Care, Theatres and Anaesthetics at both sites. The post-holder will provide expert pharmaceutical advice to multidisciplinary teams and individual patients, support anticoagulant clinics, and co‑lead a team of clinical pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. The role offers a unique opportunity to drive service innovation through patient prioritisation, pharmacist prescribing, clinical pharmacy role development, service redesign and improved discharge pathways, while ensuring the safe, effective and cost‑efficient use of all medicines throughout all areas of practice.

Essential
  • Master of Pharmacy Degree or Equivalent
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Post‑Registration Foundation Programme for Pharmacists (or demonstrable evidence of clinical knowledge equivalent to that level)
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or RPS Core Advanced Curriculum (or demonstrable evidence of clinical knowledge equivalent to that level, or currently working towards this qualification)
  • Practice certificate in pharmacist independent prescribing (or currently working towards this qualification)
  • Relevant clinical pharmacy experience at a senior level
  • Evidence of experience in service provision and development and an ability to examine current practice and develop and implement innovative solutions for improvement
Desirable
  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain
  • Postgraduate qualification to Masters level in Clinical Pharmacy (or demonstrable expert knowledge to that level)
  • Recognised tutor for trainee pharmacists, or pharmacists or technicians undertaking further qualifications.
