The Eligibility Worker – WIC is responsible for determining eligibility and enrolling participants in the Woman, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. Duties include providing basic nutrition education, issuing benefits, and making appropriate referrals. The position also supports Community Health Services by assisting with patient scheduling, insurance verifications, and maintaining accurate vaccine and medication inventory, particularly in rural clinic settings.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Screens clients to determine income eligibility, residency, and identity and certify those determined eligible for WIC services, according to established criteria and guidelines.
  • Assists clients in completing required forms and assembles and documents all information relating to the delivery of WIC services and provides nutrition education to all clients.
  • Develop and maintain a good rapport with the State of Nevada, other WIC agencies, County departments and outside agencies.
  • Determines nutritional risk by anthropometric measurements or other documentation of medical conditions, nutrition deficiencies or behaviors which demonstrate a need for supplemental food.
  • Issues food packages to align with client preferences, nutritional need and state guidelines, issues EBT cards and schedules next appointment and/or staging date to ensure no lapse in client benefits according to policy.
  • Serves as case manager for WIC clients, providing appropriate referral and follow-up services, including referral to primary care physician, medical insurance and other community resources.
  • Maintains current knowledge on general nutrition and breastfeeding guidelines as specified by the State of Nevada, the Federal WIC program and other reputable sources.
  • Assist nurses and providers at rural clinics by verifying insurance information, coding billing statements, and managing patient scheduling based on needed services.
  • Monitor and track stored inventory levels of vaccines to ensure they are in compliance.
  • Participate in outreach events to promote both CHS and WIC.
  • Ability to communicate in a courteous and professional manner, exercise good judgment and interact effectively and positively.
Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Graduation from a high school or G.E.D
  • One or two years work experience closely related to the duties and responsibilities of the class
  • Valid Nevada driver’s license
Special Requirements

Nye County requires a pre-employment drug screen through a designated facility; employment is contingent upon successful completion of this process.
