Job Summary:
The Nursing Technician performs patient care and non‑patient care functions within their scope of practice under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse. Duties include but are not limited to ADL’s, vital signs, I&O, performing EKGs, documentation of vital signs and I & O, simple dressing changes, specimen collection, assisting with meals, errands, transporting patients, medications, or specimens, ambulating patients, urinary drainage care (indwelling, external, and suprapubic), assist with colostomy care, apply binders, weigh patients, assist health care providers with procedures and physical exams, and other duties as assigned.

- Understand and adhere to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
- Perform tasks listed in the job summary according to policy and procedure.
- Integrate patient’s rights into work practice.
- Utilize current methods of infection control.
- Participate in Performance Improvement Initiatives.
- Use the appropriate steps in the decision‑making process to include recognition and priority setting related to patient care and unit‑based issues.
- Collaborate and communicate with the health care team.
- Complete competency requirements.
- Attend mandatory in‑services.
- Attend staff meetings as required / requested.
- Use cost containment practices.
Adhere to all WPH policies and procedures including dress code, code of conduct, customer service, attendance, and submission of annual physical. - Perform all other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience in a hospital or with patient care preferred.
- Successful completion of the Nursing Technician Orientation.
- Excellent communication skills (written & verbal).
- Teamwork.
- Adaptability.
- Strong problem‑solving, judgment & decision‑making skills.
- Stress tolerance.
- BLS - American Heart Association within 180 days required.
- For Nursing Technicians trained to read monitors, completion of the 4‑day EKG class required.
- Emergency Department Nursing Technicians must complete de‑escalation training within 1 year of hire or transfer to the Emergency Room.
