Community Director
The Community Director is a live-in professional who provides leadership for residential communities and contributes to a vibrant, engaging, and student-centered campus experience. This position supports student success by fostering belonging, developing student leaders, and ensuring safe, well-managed residential environments.
The Community Director serves as a primary point of connection for students, mentors student leaders, and collaborates across campus to support holistic student development and retention.

Primary Responsibilities
Residential Community Leadership
- Manage day-to-day operations of residence halls, apartments, or themed housing
- Maintain occupancy, assignments, and accurate records
- Oversee opening/closing processes and transitions
- Conduct regular facility walkthroughs and support community standards
Student Development & Engagement
- Foster inclusive communities that support student belonging and success
- Maintain a visible and accessible presence in residential areas and campus life
- Provide support and intervention for students of concern
- Collaborate with campus partners to support holistic student development
Student Leadership & Supervision
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate student leaders and paraprofessional staff
- Provide coaching, feedback, and leadership development
- Support student governance structures, including House Councils
- Facilitate leadership development opportunities
Conduct, Care, and Support
- Address student behavior through an educational conduct process
- Manage conflict resolution and roommate mediation
- Refer students to appropriate campus resources
- Support behavioral intervention processes
Crisis Response & Safety
- Serve in an on-call rotation and respond to emergencies
- Support crisis response and safety protocols
- Educate residents on safety procedures
- Coordinate with campus and local emergency personnel
Facilities & Operations Coordination
- Submit and follow up on maintenance and work orders
- Partner with facilities and housekeeping to maintain residential environments
- Monitor shared spaces and support appropriate use
Administrative & Institutional Engagement
- Maintain accurate records and documentation
- Participate in meetings, committees, and Student Life initiatives
- Support retention efforts and student success strategies
- Contribute to assessment and continuous improvement
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required
- Master's degree in higher education or related field preferred
- Experience in residence life, student leadership, or supervision preferred
Working Conditions
- Live-in position
- Evening and weekend responsibilities, including on-call rotation
- Frequent interaction with students and campus partners
- Regular movement throughout residential facilities
Overview
In addition to core responsibilities, each Community Director will be assigned a functional leadership area based on departmental needs and individual strengths.
1. Housing Operations & Facilities (Operations Lead)

The Community Director may:
- Lead housing assignments, room changes, and occupancy strategy
- Manage housing systems (e.g., eRezLife) and ensure data accuracy
- Oversee billing coordination, damage charges, and contracts
- Direct check-in/check-out processes and condition reporting
- Serve as liaison with Facilities, Housekeeping, and Business Services
- Coordinate maintenance planning, inspections, and capital improvements
- Manage housing communications (move-in/out, selection, updates)
- Support housing budgets and operational planning
2. Student Activities & Campus Programming (Engagement Lead)

The Community Director may:
- Lead campus-wide programming and event coordination
- Advise student organizations and programming boards
- Plan and execute large-scale events, traditions, and late-night programming
- Oversee operations of student spaces (e.g., student union, scheduling)
- Manage activity budgets and resource allocation
- Promote student engagement through a diverse event calendar
- Assess program effectiveness and participation trends
- Support leadership development through student involvement
3. Student Conduct (Accountability Lead)
