Our client is a publicly listed organization in a capital-intensive industry with operations based in Nevada. The business is currently transitioning into a significant ramp up period, requiring strong financial leadership, robust controls, and scalable processes to support growth and regulatory compliance.
The OpportunityThe Interim Director, Finance will lead the U.S. accounting function, acting as a key partner to the CFO and senior leadership team. This role combines hands-on execution with strategic oversight, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and scalable finance operations.
This mandate also plays a critical role in supporting the organization’s transformation to an operating company, including ERP implementation and SOX 404 compliance readiness.
Key Responsibilities- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cost centre reporting
- Deliver management reporting to support decision-making
- Manage consolidations, intercompany transactions, and entity-level reporting
- Ensure compliance with public company reporting requirements
- Lead the accounting function
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
- Ensure timely and accurate financial statements under IFRS and US GAAP
- Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team
- Establish and maintain strong internal control frameworks
- Support implementation and ongoing compliance with SOX 404 requirements
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of regulatory, financial, and tax reporting
- Develop and maintain accounting policies aligned to IFRS and US GAAP
- Oversee treasury operations, including cash management, debt compliance, and FX exposure
- Manage relationships with banks and financial institutions
- Lead U.S. and Canadian tax compliance and filings, working with external advisors
- Oversee insurance programs and risk management activities
- Support ERP evaluation, design, and implementation (Ellipse, SAP, or similar)
- Optimize financial processes, including month-end close improvements
- Align systems with operational and reporting needs
- Function as primary liaison with external auditors and internal audit functions
- Manage relationships with tax advisors, vendors, and joint venture partners
- Support audit processes and ensure readiness across reporting cycles
- Partner with HR on payroll inputs and systems
- Support project teams with financial insights and cost tracking
- Build internal capability through recruitment, training, and development of accounting staff
- Contribute to a strong safety and performance culture
- 15+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience
- Minimum 5 years in U.S. publicly listed companies
- Strong SEC reporting and compliance experience
- Experience in capital-intensive industries such as construction, mining, or energy preferred
- Proven experience building and leading accounting teams
- Deep expertise in IFRS and US GAAP reporting
- Strong experience with financial close, consolidations, and reporting processes
- Knowledge of SOX compliance and internal controls frameworks
- Experience with ERP implementation and finance systems transformation
- Strong treasury, tax, and joint venture accounting experience
- Hands-on, collaborative leader with the ability to operate strategically and tactically
- Strong communicator with experience engaging senior leadership and external advisors
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a high growth environment
- Proven ability to build alignment and drive results in complex, evolving organizations
- Experience in financial reporting for publicly listed companies
- Strong problem-solving skills, communicator, and analytical
