Primary Purpose
This position performs advanced welding tasks with minimal supervision. It is responsible for performing welding operations on structural steel components in accordance with AWS D1.1 standards. The role requires strong proficiency in welding techniques, the ability to troubleshoot weld quality issues, and the capability to work independently on complex weldments. All welders play a key role in ensuring structural integrity, maintaining quality standards, and supporting production efficiency.

Key Responsibilities- Perform advanced MIG welding operations and execute complex weldments with minimal supervision.
- Perform multi‑pass welds and structural welds.
- Read and interpret detailed blueprints, work orders, and welding symbols.
- Perform full equipment setup and parameter adjustments.
- Inspect welds for quality and dimensional accuracy.
- May train or mentor Welder 1 team members.
- Troubleshoot welding defects (porosity, undercut, lack of fusion).
- Operate hand tools, grinders, cutting torches, and other shop equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Follow all safety procedures, including PPE usage and equipment handling.
- Report equipment issues or material shortages to manager or lead personnel.
- Maintain equipment and work areas; keep area(s) clean and free of safety hazards.
- Fill out required paperwork completely and accurately.
- Maintain a positive attitude and hold oneself accountable to work as one team to ensure Grip‑Tite's overall success.
- Other job duties will be required; any employee who is trained may be assigned to work in another area or become cross‑trained as business needs require.
- 2–5+ years of MIG welding experience.
- Proven production or structural welding background.
- Proficiency in multiple weld positions (1G–4G).
- Ability to read detailed drawings, instructions, and weld symbols.
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
- Ability to lift and move materials up to required weight limits.
- Commitment to workplace safety.
- Completion of a welding or vocational training program preferred or certification.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment required.
- Proficiency with measuring tools (tape measure, calipers, etc.).
- Experience in a manufacturing/fabrication shop setting.
- Exposure to heat, sparks, noise, metal fumes, and dust.
- Requires use of PPE such as gloves, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety shoes, weld helmet, and other protective clothing.
- Standing for extended periods of time and performing repetitive tasks.
- Regular exposure to changing temperatures (hot, cold, humid).
- Ability to work in a loud environment with moderate vibration levels.
- Manufacturing / fabrication shop setting.
- Exposure to heat, sparks, noise, metal fumes, and dust.
- Requires use of PPE such as gloves, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety shoes, weld helmet, and other protective clothing.
- Standing for extended periods of time and performing repetitive tasks.
- Regular exposure to changing temperatures (hot, cold, humid).
- The noise level in the work environment can be loud; vibration levels are moderate.
- Manual dexterity for welding and tool operation.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull material as needed.
- Active position requiring standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching all day with mobility throughout required work areas.
- Frequent lifting and/or moving items up to 55 lbs. on a regular basis and up to 75 lbs. on occasion.
- Competitive hourly pay: $22.00–$25.00 per hour, based on experience and shift.
- Overtime may be required.
