Position Summary:

Prep, fit, cut, drill and weld various structural steel assemblies to D1.1 and PDM quality tolerances.

Responsibilities and Areas of Accountability
  • Set a consistent example of proper PPE, tooling guards, and safe work practices. Identify and communicate hazards immediately.
  • Maintain strong attendance, accountability, and a continuous improvement, efficiency-driven mindset.
  • Plan and execute daily work to meet production goals while reducing material costs and maintaining quality standards.
  • Interpret detail drawings and perform multi-face layout (lengths, elevations, miters, pitches, copes) with minimal supervision.
  • Fabricate standard and non-standard structural steel components.
  • Understand structural connections, steel shapes, and material grades.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of weld symbols, joint designations, prequalified welds, and AWS D1.1 code requirements.
  • Consistently produce high-quality welds in all positions, including CJP welds, meeting or exceeding FPY and AESS standards.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and correct weld defects; adjust equipment to meet WPS requirements.
  • Apply intermediate fabrication practices including order of operations, weld sequencing, heat management, and fixturing.
  • Safely operate hand tools, cutting torches, and carbon arc gouging equipment. Inspect and maintain tools and machinery.
  • Inspect work for quality and conformance, independently identify and correct in-process issues.
  • Demonstrate strong QC capability, cross-department awareness, and effective communication of non-conformances.
  • Exhibit strong craftsmanship, teamwork, shop awareness, and passion for the fabrication trade.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Proficient in blueprint reading and interpretation, including weld symbols, AWS callouts, and 2D drawing views (section and projection).
  • Working knowledge of GMAW (MIG) welding; minimum 1 year of relevant job experience in flat and horizontal positions (FCAW experience preferred).
  • Ability to produce quality welds in multiple positions and identify/correct weld defects.
  • General knowledge of fabrication practices, including layout, fit-up, and structural steel assembly.
  • Skilled in the safe use of hand and power tools (grinders, hammers, clamps);
    Layout tools to 1/16" accuracy
  • Experience operating oxy/fuel cutting torch on materials ranging from ¼"-1" thickness.
  • Familiarity with welding equipment setup and adjustment to meet WPS requirements.
  • Basic understanding of quality control principles and First Pass Yield (FPY) expectations.
  • Forklift and overhead crane experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of workplace safety, PPE, and hazard recognition.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, lift (up to 75 lbs), climb, and work in outdoor conditions in varying weather.
Education & Experience

Education:

2-year technical/trade school preferred

Experience:

Minimum 4 years of relevant fabrication/welding experience. Misc. Metals, AESS fabrication experience a plus.
