Lithium Americas is a North American resource and materials company focused on developing, building, and operating lithium deposits and chemical processing facilities. Our flagship asset is the Thacker Pass lithium resource located in Humboldt County, Nevada.
Job Title: Sulfuric Acid Plant Shift Supervisor
Location: Thacker Pass Project Site (commissioning and startup). The position reports to the Sulfuric Acid Superintendent and may require occasional travel to other LAC offices or project sites.
Key Responsibilities- Champion a safety-first culture by ensuring all operations comply with safety policies, OSHA regulations, and process safety management standards.
- Supervise and motivate the Sulfuric Acid operations crews and relevant contractors, conduct performance evaluations, and address personnel matters.
- Lead commissioning and start-up of the Sulfuric Acid Plant to safely achieve design capacity.
- Monitor and report operational Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including EHS compliance, production, and efficiency metrics.
- Troubleshoot production-process issues and coordinate with appropriate departments.
- Supervise and coordinate hourly production operators to meet daily production targets (Quantity, Quality, On-Time Delivery).
- Assist in developing emergency response plans.
- Ensure completion of all reporting and record-keeping requirements.
- Plan and manage procurement of consumables such as reagents and gases.
- Continuously manage production schedules for the Sulfuric Acid Plant.
- Conduct incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
- Coordinate activities with maintenance, electrical, mobile equipment, and processing departments to align plant performance.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, NDEP, EPA, DOT, and other regulatory requirements.
- Provide guidance to operations team members, contractors, and consultants to uphold corporate standards.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships across all teams while championing a culture aligned with our Purpose, Vision, and Values.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- 5+ years of experience in mineral processing or chemical manufacturing.
- 2+ years of supervisory experience.
- Experience in greenfield or brownfield start-up environments, including staffing, training, and commissioning.
- Ability to work a rotating shift schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays).
- Strong understanding of chemical plant principles, processes, and unit operations.
- Proficiency with plant control systems (DCS) and laboratory data interpretation.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary operations staff.
- Strong focus on safety, compliance, and environmental stewardship.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to motivate and influence teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, Teams, etc.).
