Certified Welding Inspector / NDE Inspector

Owen Industries is seeking an experienced Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and/or NDE Inspector to support our structural steel fabrication and finishing operations. This role is critical to ensuring weld integrity, coating compliance, and conformance to customer and industry specifications.
Open only to certified inspectors with hands-on experience in structural steel environments.
What You’ll Do- Perform in-process and random inspections of structural steel fabrication
- Inspect structural welds in accordance with AWS D1.1 and job specifications
- Conduct NDE inspections (VT required; MT/UT/PT preferred as certified)
- Verify fit-up, weld size, and acceptance criteria
- Inspect industrial paint and coating systems, including primers, zinc-rich coatings, and mil thickness
- Identify, document, and issue non-conformance reports (NCRs) and red-tag material as required
- Maintain inspection and traceability records using quality software and handheld devices
- Support weld mapping, error-proofing, and documentation prior to shipment
- Perform offsite inspections when required
- Collaborate with fabrication, painting, and production teams to resolve quality issues
- Active AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or Active NDE Certification (VT required; MT, UT, and/or PT Level I or II strongly preferred)
- Strong blueprint reading and weld symbol interpretation skills
- Working knowledge of AWS D1.1, inspection procedures, and acceptance criteria
- Experience inspecting industrial paint/coating systems is a strong plus
- Ability to clearly document findings and enforce quality standards
- Applicants without current CWI or NDE certification will not be considered.

- Standing and walking for extended periods
- Lifting up to 50 pounds
- Exposure to heat, noise, dust, and overhead crane activity
