Job Overview

The Production Supervisor is responsible for directing and coordinating daily production activities to ensure schedule attainment, operational efficiency, and adherence to quality and safety standards. This role oversees team performance, ensures proper material availability, and maintains a positive and safe work environment. This role implements and promotes safety programs and safe work practices through leadership of his/her team, involvement in plant safety teams, immediate resolution of imminent safety risk, working on safety programs, and engaging in safety initiatives.

Develops, promotes, and supports continuous improvement and other cross‑functional initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Review production orders and schedules to determine product specifications, quantities, and delivery timelines in order to effectively plan department operations.
  • Plan and coordinate production activities by establishing priorities and sequencing workflows to meet operational goals.
  • Evaluate operational schedules and align manufacturing activities to ensure products meet quality, safety, and customer specifications.
  • Analyze and monitor production KPIs; proactively identify and resolve operational, manufacturing, and maintenance issues to minimize costs and prevent delays.
  • Conduct regular inspections of machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and efficient utilization.
  • Develop, implement, and revise standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work practices; monitor team compliance and provide guidance as needed.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with cross‑functional departments and leadership to support operational success.
  • Prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently while organizing team workloads and ensuring proper staffing and task distribution.
  • Promote and uphold Food Safety and Quality (FSQ) standards, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and company requirements.
  • Accurately compile, maintain, and retrieve production data and documentation for reporting and analysis.
  • Ensure smooth shift transitions by documenting and communicating key updates, issues, and ongoing needs between teams.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant work environment by enforcing company policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Support overall team success by contributing to departmental and organizational goals and assisting with related tasks as needed.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time (8‑hour shift) on a production floor.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to hairnets, gloves, safety glasses, steel‑toe shoes, and protective clothing.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, and operate equipment controls and tools.
  • Visual ability to monitor production processes, read labels, and review documentation.
  • Ability to respond quickly to operational issues and emergencies within the production environment.
  • Must be able to comply with all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene requirements associated with raw meat processing.
Work Environment
  • Manufacturing/production floor environment.
  • Tolerance for exposure to noise, moving machinery, wet or slippery surfaces, and food processing environments.
  • Ability to work in varied environmental conditions, including cold temperatures typical of raw meat processing areas.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Food Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and mentor large teams of hourly associates is required.
  • 1–3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Strong analytical/critical thinking.
  • Strong accountability, consistency and follow‑through skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Effectively communicates via email.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Directly supervise Production Technicians/Operators, carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training team members; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; administering rewards and disciplinary actions; and addressing employee concerns by investigating and resolving issues in a timely and effective manner.
