Job Summary
As a Machine Operator team member at Smithfield Foods, you will play a key role in delivering safe, high‑quality food by operating meat cutting, packing, and other equipment on our production line. Your reliability, attention to detail, and strong work ethic will help us meet our standards for safety, quality, and teamwork every day.
What You’ll Do- Operate meat cutting and packaging machines and other computerized equipment.
- Perform essential production tasks and support coworkers to maintain a safe and efficient production line.
- Ensure that products reach families across America with the highest quality standards.
- Work scheduled shifts and be available for overtime as production demands require.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Perform tasks requiring continuous or repetitive movement, including grasping, pinching, flexing, and extending arms.
- Stand on concrete or platforms for up to a 12‑hour shift.
- Work around animal blood and carcass parts, and in cold (≈20–40°F) or hot (over 100°F) environments.
- Operate a knife (if trained) and work with sanitation and cleaning chemicals.
- Work in a wet, humid, or noisy environment while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, eye protection, and steel‑toed safety shoes.
- Climb or move on ladders, steps, stairways, walkways, and platforms; bend, stoop, and twist repetitively throughout the shift.
- Walk long distances and may be required to lift overhead objects up to 30lbs or single lifts up to 60lbs, with or without mechanical assistance.
- If required, obtain certification to operate specific equipment.
