PCC: VOLUNTEER OUTREACH REPRESENTATIVE
The Volunteer Outreach Representative plays a crucial role in supporting and expanding the Polk County Conservation Volunteer Program. This position works directly in the field alongside PCC staff and volunteers, providing on-site guidance and support on volunteer-assigned projects and at scheduled events that connect community members with meaningful outdoor work. This role is highly field-focused, with an emphasis on being present with volunteers in natural areas, helping them succeed in their assigned projects, and strengthening community involvement in conservation.
One Three-Quarter Time Volunteer Outreach Representative will serve with Polk County Conservation as part of the Polk County Conservation Ameri Corps Program. Ameri Corps members develop skills that build a strong, leadership-packed résumé, earn a living stipend ($16,620) paid out equally over the course of 1200 hours of service and receive a Segal Education Award upon completion ($5,176.50) to pay for higher education or qualified student loans.
This position is a Three-Quarter Time member, who will serve a minimum of 1200 hours over 39 weeks, serving 38 hours per week. This posting is not a direct position of Polk County Conservation, and successful applicants will not be employees of Polk County. Successful applicants will not be subject to terms and conditions of Polk County employment and will not be eligible for any employee benefits provided by Polk County.
However, these positions will be serving with Polk County Conservation, a host site of the Polk County Conservation Ameri Corps Program, and will be subject to Ameri Corps rules, benefits, and requirements. Further help on this page can be found by clicking here.
Member Duties :
Members complete CPR/AED and first aid training, chainsaw handling, and Iowa Pesticide Applicator certifications (Categories 2, 4, and
6). They also earn NWCG certifications (S-130, S-190) and may receive L-180 and IS-700. Volunteer Outreach Representatives receive additional training in community outreach, public speaking, volunteer coordination, and garden weed duties include recruiting and retaining volunteers, managing outreach, coordinating and leading events, training volunteers in tool use, and promoting conservation via social media. Non-essential duties include water quality monitoring and tool/equipment care.
All members must complete required certifications within three weeks of their start date or risk dismissal. Members may participate in other approved Ameri Corps activities but are prohibited from engaging in unapproved tasks.
