Van Buren County Hospital is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to serve as Weekend House Supervisor, providing hospital-wide clinical leadership and operational oversight during weekend shifts.
This role works Friday through Sunday (12-hour shifts) and receives 1.5x base pay as part of our premium weekend package. The House Supervisor serves as the primary nursing authority on duty and supports safe patient care, staffing coordination, and operational decision-making across departments.
Supervise nursing services across inpatient and assigned departments
Act as liaison between shifts and departments to ensure continuity of care
Assign and adjust staffing based on census, acuity, and skill mix
Provide real-time staffing adjustments and find coverage as needed
Respond to patient care urgencies and hospital emergencies
Conduct daily rounds to monitor patient condition and quality of care
Support admissions, bed assignments, and discharge coordination
Participate in care conferences and collaborate with Utilization Review
Provide mentorship, guidance, and oversight to nursing personnel
Assist with staff orientation and performance evaluation processes
Serve as secondary contact for critical value reporting when needed
Maintain compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and safety practices
Minimum QualificationsGraduate of an accredited school of nursing
Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in Iowa or compact state
BLS Certification
ACLS Certification (or willingness to obtain within one year)
TNCC Certification (or willingness to obtain within one year)
PALS Certification (or willingness to obtain within one year)
3–5 years of nursing experience required
Prior leadership or charge nurse experience strongly preferred
Hospital-wide oversight role
Frequent collaboration with Med/Surg, ED, and clinic teams
Must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
