Job SummaryThe Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long term care. Provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned resident under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Knowledge of and delivers age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per care plan. The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) assists with basic health care needs, including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support and other personal care to assigned resident(s).
The CNA assists with transferring, repositioning, walking, and passive exercises, completes tasks related to food preparation and dining, aids providers and nursing staff with procedures, documents resident interactions, communicates changing conditions to charge nurse, collects non-invasive body fluid specimens, and provides housekeeping and laundry services. The CNA may participate in departmental and organization committees and task forces as needed.
- High school graduate or GED preferred, but not required.
- Minimum age of 16.
- Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.
- Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing within four months of start date, or enrolled in a training program or in process of obtaining certification through endorsement.
- Completes yearly department-specific competency testing, maintains a record of continuing education credits each year; minimum of 12 hours continuing education required annually.
- Maintains all department-specific required certifications.
- When applicable, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry (for applicable states).
- If required, this role may classify as a Sanford Category II Driver requiring a vehicle report and proof of a valid driver’s license; must be medically qualified to perform essential driving functions per Sanford Driving Policy.
