Job SummaryThe Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during scheduled work periods in long‑term care. Provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned resident under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Knowledge of and delivers age‑appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per care plan. The CNA provides assistance with basic health‑care needs, including but not limited to bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support.
The CNA assists the resident(s) in transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct and appropriate transfer techniques and equipment and also provides a range of motion and passive exercises. The CNA completes tasks related to food preparation, dining, and a positive dining experience for residents, assists with meals and snacks, provides water and supplements as appropriate. The CNA aids providers and nursing staff with procedures, documents resident interactions, and communicates changes in resident conditions.
The CNA collects non‑invasive body fluid specimens and gathers vital signs, provides housekeeping and laundry services, assists with wellness and recreational programs, and may participate in departmental committees and task forces.
- High school graduate or GED preferred, but not required.
- Minimum age of 16.
- Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred.
- Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing within four months of employment, or enrollment in a training program.
- Completes yearly department‑specific competency testing and maintains continuing education credits (minimum 12 hours annually).
- Maintains all department specific required certifications.
- When applicable, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.
- Depending on responsibilities, may require a valid driver’s license and medical qualification to perform essential driving functions.
