Overview

The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long‑term care. The role provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Salary range is $19.00 – $25.50 per hour.

Responsibilities

Provides assistance with basic health‑care needs, including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, recording vital signs, and offering psychosocial support. Assists residents with transfers, repositioning, and walking using correct techniques and equipment, and provides range‑of‑motion and passive exercise. Completes tasks related to food preparation and dining, creating a positive dining experience. Assists with meals, water, and supplements as appropriate. Supports nursing staff with procedures when needed.

Documents resident interactions and outcomes related to care, behavior, activity, and diet. Communicates changes in resident condition to the charge nurse and coordinate care. Collects non‑invasive body fluid specimens and gathers vital signs. Provides housekeeping and laundry services, supports wellness and recreational programs, and encourages resident participation. May participate in departmental or organization committees and task forces as required.

Qualifications

High‑school graduate or GED preferred but not required. Minimum age 16. Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred. Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification within four months of start date; may be enrolled in training or in process of obtaining certification through endorsement. CNA training and certification are provided by the facility. Must satisfactorily complete yearly departmental competency testing and maintain yearly continuing‑education credits (minimum 12 hours).

Maintains all required certifications; may need to be registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry in applicable states.

May be classified as a Sanford Category II Driver requiring a valid driver’s license, motor‑vehicle report, and medical qualification per Sanford Driving Policy.
