Job Summary
In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager:
- Assures the delivery of quality department/clinical services in accordance with established hospital and regulatory/accreditation agency standards.
- Promotes a positive and professional image, serving as a role model, coach, mentor, problem solver and resource for staff and peers.
- Is responsible and accountable for the overall operations of their assigned department, including development of department goals and objectives aligned with the hospital mission and strategic plan, personnel management, and budget monitoring.
- Manages the FTE component of staffing budgets.
- Maintains 24‑hour responsibility for nursing care on the unit.
- Collaborates with physicians and the Health Care Team to assure optimal age‑appropriate patient care.
- Provides hospital supervision as required by the Division of Nursing.
- Participates in the development of evidence‑based standards of care for their clinical area.
- Assures employee compliance with hospital and Human Resources policies and procedures.
- Ensures employee competency and education requirements are met per hospital policy.
- Participates in the Performance Improvement Program as defined by the organization.
- Ensures a safe environment for employees and patients.
- Maintains knowledge of department operations.
- Works collaboratively with all levels of the hospital interdisciplinary team, promoting a team concept within the department and across the hospital.
- Demonstrates positive customer service, fosters employee relations, and ensures staff adhere to the Customer Service Behavioral Standards.
- Supports hospital initiatives and projects, acting as a positive change agent.
- Participates in community service.
- BSN required.
- 1–3 years of experience, with at least 2 years in relevant acute care.
- Basic knowledge of management skills (low proficiency).
- Previous management/leadership experience preferred.
- Ability to function as a staff RN.
- Demonstrates excellence in clinical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
