Responsibilities
  • Work Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator.
  • Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and supervise individual patient care on a nursing unit/department according to unit policies and procedures.
  • Provide supervision of non‑RN personnel on the assigned unit.
  • When assuming the charge role, delegate and supervise unit activities.
  • May be required to work on other nursing units according to staff distribution and patient needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested to maintain a high level of service.
  • Assess the patient’s physical and psychosocial condition on an ongoing basis throughout the continuum of care.
  • Develop, communicate, and document a plan of care reflecting individualized patient problems and interventions to achieve desired outcomes, involving the patient, family, and healthcare team.
  • Implement and coordinate the plan of care in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the plan of care, the patient’s response to care, and readiness for discharge.
  • Revise the plan of care as needed and make referrals where indicated.
  • Plan for education after assessing the individual learning needs and readiness of the patient and family.
  • Provide educational opportunities and document outcomes.
  • Serve as a preceptor to new staff.
  • Serve as a charge nurse.
  • Meet performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and staff and self development as outlined in performance review.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department/unit.
  • Demonstrate competency in the care of neuro patients, including neuro assessment, airway management, tracheostomy care, patient education, and use of equipment such as halo braces and ventilator support.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
  • Proficient in the use of computer software, including electronic patient records.
  • Ability to use the internet for literature searches regarding patient care.
Experience
  • One (1) year of acute nursing experience required.
  • Critical care or emergency experience preferred.
Licensure
  • Valid State of Connecticut Registered Nurse license.
Special Skills
  • BLS required.
