Job Summary Responsible for providing primary care services, including assessing, diagnosing, prescribing, treating, and educating patients. The NP works closely with physicians and other clinicians in a team approach to patient care, and may specialize in a specific type of clinical care, such as pediatrics or geriatrics. The NP maintains professional practice standards and demonstrates leadership skills, participates in performance improvement and research activities, and collaborates with the healthcare team to provide comprehensive care.

Understand and adhere to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and BehaviorsPerform health assessments including patient history and physical examinationPerform diagnostic procedures, according to privilegesPerform preventive screening according to age and historyOrder diagnostic tests, evaluate results and incorporate them into the plan of careFormulate appropriate diagnoses, based on history, physical examination and clinical findingsPlan and provide care, within the framework of policies, procedures, privileges and available resources, and applying relevant researchInvolve the patient/family in planning careCollaborate with physicians and other health care providers to coordinate care of patients and evaluate the plan of care and patient toward health goals, and modify the plan accordinglyPrescribe pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic therapies, according to privilegesOrder, perform, and interpret diagnostic procedures and tests within the scope of privilegingProvide patient/family education related to health statusEvaluate effectiveness of plan of care and interventions by comparing patients/significant others/family responses to planned outcomeCollaborate and communicate appropriately with all members of the health care teamDocument in a thorough and timely mannerParticipate in the education of health care professionals and students through mentoring, precepting, in‑services, seminars, and formal presentationsParticipate in professional activities that contribute to the advancement of nursing practice, such as participation in professional associations and publicationDevelop own clinical knowledge and skills through continuing education programs, coursework and reading professional literatureParticipate in own performance evaluation and establishment of plan for self‑development and learningAbide by the standards of care and standards of practice established by White Plains Hospital Center (WPHC)Accept and abide by the “Ethical Code for Nurse” as established by the American Nurses AssociationPractice within the regulations of the New York State Nurse Practice ActMaintain nurse practitioner specialty certification with the American Nurses Credentialing Center or another national credentialing body, and with the New York State Department of Education (NYSED – Board of Nursing)Incorporate guidelines and standards into practice as established by state and national regulatory bodies and professional organizationsDemonstrate effective stress management and problem solving skillsRole model professional behavior in all situationsEffectively use time to initiate special projects related to area of practiceDemonstrate integration of Quality Improvement and research into practiceParticipate in systematic reviews of records and/or treatment plans for the purposes of peer review, self‑evaluation, outcome monitoring and/or quality improvementSupport research by defining research questions, participating and/or conducting research in practice setting, as indicatedMaintain a current collaborative practice agreementPerform all other related duties as assignedQualifications

- 1–3 years of experience; minimum two years in an acute care setting preferred
