Summary
The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as a caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long‑term care. The NA provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance to the assigned resident under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). The NA delivers age‑appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per the care plan and is accountable for following infection prevention and control policies and personal protective equipment use.
Job DescriptionThe Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) assists with basic health‑care needs, including daily living activities such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support and other personal care to assigned residents. The CNA assists with transferring, repositioning, and walking residents using correct transfer techniques and equipment and provides range‑of‑motion and passive exercises. The CNA completes tasks related to food preparation and dining, creating a positive dining experience for residents, and assists with meals, snacks, water, and supplements as appropriate.
The CNA aids providers and nursing staff with procedures when needed and documents resident interactions, outcomes related to resident care, behavior, activity, and dietary. The CNA communicates residents’ changing conditions and care‑related concerns to the charge nurse, collects non‑invasive body‑fluid specimens, gathers vital signs, and provides housekeeping and laundry services to keep living areas clean and operational. The CNA documents and assists with wellness and recreational programs and encourages resident participation.
The CNA may participate in departmental or organizational committees and task forces as needed.
Salary Range: $17.00 – $25.50 per hour.

High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred but not required.
Minimum age of 16. Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred.
Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or state‑certified CNA within four months of starting the position while enrolled in a training program or in the process of obtaining certification through endorsement. CNA training and certification are required and provided by the facility. The applicant must satisfactorily complete yearly department‑specific competency testing and maintain a record of continuing education credits each year;
a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education are required annually and all department‑specific required certifications must be maintained. Where applicable, the applicant must be registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry. Depending on facility responsibilities, this role may classify as a Sanford Category II Driver, requiring a motor vehicle report and proof of a valid driver’s license, and the applicant must be medically qualified to perform the essential driving functions of the position per Sanford Driving Policy.
