Mercy One Dyersville Medical Center is a 20-bed critical access hospital serving 17 rural communities in western Dubuque county. As a Level IV Community Trauma Care Facility, it offers 24/7 emergency and trauma services, along with acute and skilled inpatient care, ambulatory surgery, home care and specialty clinics. The center includes a fully equipped laboratory, imaging services, retail pharmacy with drive‑thru and delivery and Phase II cardiac rehabilitation tailored to those recovering from heart events.

As a Registered Nurse at Mercy One, you will provide and direct safe, effective, and culturally competent care for patients with acute medical and surgical conditions. Through evidence-based practice, utilizes critical thinking to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate outcome-based care. The Acute Care RN manages a diverse patient population with varying levels of acuity, including post-operative, medical, telemetry, and neurologic patients.

Supervises and coordinates care provided by LPNs, Patient Care Assistants, and other nursing team members. Facilitates communication with physicians, patients and families, and interdisciplinary team members. Adheres to Mercy One’s performance expectations and upholds the Mission, Vision, and Values of Mercy One.

Essential Functions:
  • Conducts assessment
  • Identifies patient problems and develops plan of care
  • Implements outcome/goal – based plan of care
  • Evaluates patient progress and revises the outcome/goal – based plan as needed
  • Communicates relevant clinical information to the team to optimize patient outcomes/goals
  • Demonstrates clinical competence
  • Manages telemetry and cardiac monitoring when applicable
  • Provides care appropriate to the age-related needs of the patients served on his/her assigned unit
  • Adheres to all safety, infection control and colleague health policies and procedures
  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
Schedule:
  • 1.0 FTE status, 40 hours per week
  • Monday - Friday
  • 8-hr shifts
  • Evening shift: 4:00 pm - 12:30 am
Minimum LPN

Qualifications:

  • The Licensed Practical Nurse must hold an active license to practice nursing in the state of Iowa.
  • Graduation from an approved program for practical nurses is required.
  • The Licensed Practical Nurse must maintain continuing education units per the state licensure requirements and continuously seek opportunities to enhance his or her own professional nursing practice.
  • Membership in an appropriate professional nursing organization is recommended.
  • Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training is required within 6 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) will be required within 30 days of hire and every 2 years thereafter.
