Job SummaryThe Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to residents during the scheduled work period in long‑term care. Provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Delivers age‑appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of residents as per care plans, follows infection prevention and control policies, and uses personal protective equipment.
Assists with daily living activities such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing and undressing, records vital signs, offers psychosocial support, and assists with transfer, repositioning, and walking using proper techniques and equipment. Provides range‑of‑motion and passive exercises, assists with food preparation and dining, supplies water and supplements, and participates in wellness and recreational programs. Supports nursing staff with procedures, documents resident interactions and outcomes, communicates changes in condition to the charge nurse, collects non‑invasive specimens, and performs housekeeping and laundry services as needed.
May participate in departmental or organizational committees and task forces.
- High school graduate or GED preferred, but not required.
- Minimum age of 16.
- Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred.
- Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or state‑certified CNA within four months of employment, obtainable through training or endorsement. CNA training and certification required and provided by the facility.
- Completes yearly department‑specific competency testing and maintains a record of continuing education credits. A minimum of 12 hours of continuing education are required annually.
- Maintains all department‑specific required certifications.
- When applicable, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.
- Dependent on facility and required responsibilities, this role may classify as a Sanford Category II Driver requiring a motor vehicle report, proof of a valid driver’s license, and medical qualification to perform essential driving functions in accordance with the Sanford Driving Policy.
