Job SummaryThe Registered Nurse provides direct patient care and collaborates with patients, families, peers, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to deliver comprehensive healthcare services. The RN assesses patient needs, plans, implements, and evaluates medical and nursing regimens in alignment with hospital policies, nursing philosophy, and standards, demonstrating leadership and commitment to professional accountability and growth.
Essential Functions- Understands and adheres to WPH Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors.
- Provides respectful care for all patients, promoting mutual respect, shared decision‑making, and informed consent while honoring autonomy and dignity across all protected groups.
- Delivers respectful birthing care that promotes mutual respect and shared decision‑making in Labor & Delivery.
- Manages NICU infants requiring inter‑facility transport, applying the nursing process to meet age‑specific biophysical, psychosocial, educational, safety/environmental, and discharge planning needs.
- Utilizes the nursing process to meet the age‑specific needs of all patients, incorporating biophysical, psychosocial, education, safety/environment, and discharge planning aspects.
- Applies the decision‑making process, including recognition and priority setting related to patient care and unit‑based issues, and addresses issues with appropriate actions.
- Administers blood and blood products according to policy.
- Collaborates and communicates with the interdisciplinary health care team.
- Integrates patient rights and nursing ethics into practice.
- Adheres to infection control standards to reduce nosocomial infection risk for patients and staff.
- Adheres to Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals.
- Delegates activities to ancillary staff in line with the State Nurse Practice Act.
- Adheres to ANA Code of Nursing Ethics & Scope and Standards of Nursing Practice.
- Supports, promotes, and practices within the WPH Professional Nursing Practice Model and sustains the Magnet model.
- Participates in performance improvement initiatives.
- Completes competency requirements.
- Attends mandatory in‑services and staff meetings as required.
- Utilizes cost‑containment practices.
- Assumes Charge Nurse responsibility.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- BSN required; MSN preferred with less than 1 year experience.
- Preferred prior patient experience: 1‑3 years.
- 1 year of acute care nursing experience (areas other than medical‑surgical or step‑down) is required.
- Knowledge of current nursing, medical, and health trends and practices (medium proficiency).
- Assessment skills and sound problem‑solving, judgment, and decision‑making skills.
- Ability to adapt in a high‑stress, fast‑paced environment with multiple interruptions.
- Ability to detect sounds and respond to emergency signals at all times.
- Ability to operate computers, equipment, and other devices continuously.
- Ability to concentrate on fine detail, sustain tasks for more than 60 minutes.
- Ability to understand and relate to concepts, remember multiple tasks throughout the day.
- Registered Nurse license in New York required (NY State Board of Nursing).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association required for all RNs (except NICU & OR) within 1 year of hire.
- All newly hired experienced RNs (except NICU & OR) must complete ACLS within 180 days.
- For PACU, 5I Pediatrics, ER, Armonk Urgent Care, and ambulatory surgery centers, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is required within 1 year of hire.
- All newly hired RNs in PACU, 5I Pediatrics, ER, Armonk Urgent Care, and ambulatory surgery centers must obtain PALS within 180 days.
- For Mother‑Baby unit, Labor & Delivery, and NICU, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification is required within 6 months…
