Job Summary

Provide primary care services—assessing, diagnosing, prescribing, treating, and educating patients—within the scope of a Nurse Practitioner. Collaborate with physicians and the healthcare team to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans to achieve health outcomes. Maintain professional practice standards, engage in performance improvement and research activities, and demonstrate leadership in the Infusion Cancer Center.

Essential Functions
  • Understand and adhere to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
  • Perform health assessments, including patient history and physical examination.
  • Conduct diagnostic procedures according to privileges.
  • Provide preventive screening appropriate to age and history.
  • Order and evaluate diagnostic tests, incorporating results into the plan of care.
  • Formulate diagnoses based on history, examination, and findings.
  • Plan and deliver care within policies, procedures, privileges, and resource constraints, applying research evidence.
  • Involve patients/families in care planning.
  • Coordinate patient care with physicians and other providers, adjusting plans to meet health goals.
  • Prescribe pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic therapies per privileges.
  • Interpret diagnostic procedures and tests within scope of privileging.
  • Provide patient/family education on health status.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of care plans by comparing outcomes with planned objectives.
  • Communicate effectively with all healthcare team members.
  • Document care thoroughly and timely.
  • Mentor health professionals and students through in‑services, seminars, and presentations.
  • Participate in professional activities that advance nursing practice.
  • Develop clinical knowledge through continuing education, coursework, and literature review.
  • Engage in self‑evaluation and develop a plan for learning and development.
  • Abide by white plains hospital care standards and the New York State Nurse Practice Act.
  • Maintain nurse practitioner specialty certification (e.g., ANCC or other national body).
  • Apply state and national regulatory guidelines and professional organization standards.
  • Demonstrate effective stress management and problem‑solving skills.
  • Model professional behavior in all situations.
  • Initiate special projects related to area of practice.
  • Integrate quality improvement and research into practice.
  • Participate in systematic reviews, peer review, and quality monitoring.
  • Support research by defining questions and conducting or assisting with studies.
  • Maintain a current collaborative practice agreement.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications
    • MSN required.
    • 1‑3 years of experience, with at least two years in an acute care setting preferred.
    • Registered Nurse in New York, licensed by the New York State Board of Nursing.
    • Strong clinical proficiency, multi‑tasking, teamwork, adaptability, communication, problem‑solving, planning, organization, attention to detail, judgment, stress tolerance, and project management.
    Required Certifications and Licensing
    • NP education and registration in New York, required upon hire.
    • BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association, required upon hire.
    • ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support – American Heart Association, required upon hire.
    • National certification as a Nurse Practitioner, required.
    • Direct oncology care:
      Current cancer‑specific certification by an accredited program (e.g., AOCNP®, AOCNS®, AOCN®, BMTCN®, CPHON®, CPON®, CBCN®, OCN®).
    • Ongoing education: 36 cancer‑related continuing education nursing contact hours every three years.
    • ONS Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Certification (required if working in the Infusion Center).
