Pay rate: $58.41–$75.81 per hour
The Unit Leader supports bedside nurses to provide safe patient care and to achieve organizational, departmental, and individual goals. In partnership with the Nurse Manager, the Unit Leader serves as a liaison among management, staff, physicians, patients, families, ancillary staff, and other departments, modeling effective time management, conflict resolution and delegation skills.
Responsibilities- Understand and adhere to WPH performance standards, policies and behaviors.
- Ensure quality, safe patient care and clinical services are rendered in accordance with hospital, regulatory agency and evidence‑based standards.
- Act as a positive role model for nursing staff and provide coaching, mentoring and problem‑solving support on all shifts.
- Identify, develop, implement and monitor unit‑based quality and performance‑improvement initiatives with measurable outcomes.
- Collaborate with physicians and the healthcare team to deliver optimum, age‑appropriate patient care.
- Develop nursing standards and protocols based on best practices.
- Participate clinically in patient care and accept assignments as required.
- Encourage staff to engage in continuing education, shared governance and mandatory annual competencies.
- Serve on task forces, committees or projects as assigned.
- Maintain a safe work environment in line with accrediting and regulatory agencies.
- Participate in interdisciplinary collaboration to achieve measurable improvements.
- Demonstrate mastery of customer‑service skills, including patient rounding and monitoring satisfaction scores that exceed benchmarks.
- Develop action plans with measurable outcomes to improve patient and nursing satisfaction.
- Support organization‑wide initiatives and projects as a change agent.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- 1–3 years of RN experience; 2 years in the unit concentration preferred.
- Previous management or leadership experience preferred.
- Ability to function as staff RN.
- Excellence in clinical skills, teamwork and adaptability.
- Strong assessment, communication, planning and problem‑solving skills.
- Stress tolerance and ability to work in a high‑interruption, fast‑paced environment.
- Proficiency in technology and ability to concentrate on detailed tasks for extended periods.
- Registered Nurse license in the State of New York.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – required upon hire.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – required for all RNs except NICU & OR RNs; completion within 6–12 months as appropriate.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – required for RNs in PACU, 5I Pediatrics, ED, Armonk Urgent Care, Ambulatory Surgery and #226 Ambulatory Surgery Center; completion within 6–12 months.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – required for RNs in Mother‑Baby, Labor & Delivery and NICU; completion within 6 months.
