Registered Nurse (RN) - Obstetrics

As an Obstetrics RN, you provide nursing care for pregnant patients across prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum periods, monitoring maternal and fetal status.

You support labor and delivery, newborn care, and perinatal education while coordinating with the obstetric team.

• Monitor maternal and fetal status during prenatal visits, labor, and postpartum care.
• Administer medications and assist with labor support, delivery, and newborn assessment as applicable.
• Coordinate with obstetricians, nurses, and ancillary staff to ensure safe, individualized care.
• Provide patient education on prenatal care, labor expectations, breastfeeding, and newborn care.
• Document assessments, orders, and care plans in the electronic health record.
• Respond to obstetric emergencies and participate in code team activities as needed.
• Support lactation and parental education as part of postpartum care.

Education:

BSN or ADN with licensure as an RN.

Licensure:

Active RN license in the practicing state.

Certifications:

• ACLS and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) are commonly required or preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS)

Experience or Skills:

Experience in obstetric nursing or labor/delivery with strong critical thinking and teamwork skills.

• 1-3 years of obstetric nursing experience in hospital or birth center settings.
• Experience with fetal monitoring and newborn care.

Hospital maternity unit with high acuity and unit-based teamwork; variable shifts including nights and on-call coverage.

Documentation is performed in the EHR with multidisciplinary collaboration.
