This Podiatry Nurse position is responsible for delivering high-quality, cost-effective patient care in support of Cherokee Regional Medical Centers mission and values. The nurse fosters collaborative and productive working relationships with providers, interdisciplinary departments, and colleagues to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care. Responsive to the needs of patients and the community, the Podiatry Nurse demonstrates leadership by upholding standards of clinical practice, promoting quality and safety initiatives, supporting the achievement of organizational goals, and providing clinical expertise within the hospital-based podiatry clinic.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Obtains complete admission assessment including: brief history, current problem, current medications, allergies and vitals. Documents appropriately.
Prepares, informs and drapes patients for privacy during exams and procedures.
Assists physicians with exams, utilizing aseptic and sterile techniques as needed.
Adheres to safe practice when administering medications, injections or treatments as ordered by the provider.
Follows universal precautions and demonstrates competence in assembling equipment. Ensures that appropriate instruments and equipment are properly used, cleaned, sterilized and maintained.
Orders medication, supplies and restock rooms as needed.
Obtain consents as appropriate.
Maintains adequate knowledge level and assumes responsibility for education to patient and family utilizing existing teaching materials.
Schedules surgery and/or tests as ordered by the provider.
Answers phones, schedules appointments, checks in patients and other clerical duties as assigned.
Engages in quality improvement activities.
