Role Description

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is a full-time, on-site role based between offices in Kalona and Washington, IA, providing direct psychiatric and mental health care to clients across the lifespan. Daily responsibilities include conducting psychiatric evaluations, diagnosing mental health conditions, developing and adjusting treatment plans, and prescribing and managing psychotropic medications in coordination with counseling services. The practitioner will collaborate closely with therapists, primary care providers, and other wellness specialists to ensure integrated, person-centered care.

Additional responsibilities include maintaining accurate clinical documentation, participating in regular case consultation and interdisciplinary team meetings, and contributing to a supportive, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive environment. The role also involves educating clients and families on mental health conditions, treatment options, and wellness strategies to support long-term recovery and resilience.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated expertise in Mental Health Nursing and Psychiatric Care, with the ability to provide safe, evidence-based treatment for a variety of mental health conditions.
  • Experience practicing as a Nurse Practitioner, including assessment, diagnosis, and medication management within a collaborative care model.
  • Active or eligible Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure in Iowa, with appropriate psychiatric certification (e.g., PMHNP).
  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience working with children, adolescents, and families in outpatient or community mental health settings is highly beneficial.
  • Commitment to ethical practice, ongoing professional development, and supporting a positive, nonjudgmental, and inclusive care environment.
