The Patient Care Coordinator supports the surgical experience within a fast-paced, high-volume ambulatory surgery center. This position serves as a primary point of contact for patients before and after their scheduled procedures and must be able to manage a high volume of calls while maintaining accuracy, professionalism, and excellent customer service.
The coordinator completes preoperative calls to confirm procedure details, arrival times, transportation arrangements, required documentation, and the patient’s understanding of facility-approved instructions. The coordinator identifies missing information or potential concerns and promptly refers clinical questions to the appropriate licensed team member.
Following the procedure, the coordinator conducts postoperative calls using the facility’s approved follow-up process to check on the patient’s recovery, reinforce discharge instructions, and identify any questions or concerns requiring clinical review. All patient communications and follow-up activities must be documented accurately and promptly in the appropriate system.
The Patient Care Coordinator works closely with nursing, scheduling, providers, and facility leadership to support continuity of care, patient satisfaction, regulatory compliance, and efficient facility operations. Additional responsibilities may include maintaining call logs, tracking incomplete calls, assisting with patient communication, and supporting other administrative functions as needed.
This is an administrative position and does not independently provide medical advice, perform clinical assessments, or modify patient instructions. Clinical questions, reported symptoms, or patient concerns must be promptly escalated to a licensed nurse or provider in accordance with facility policy.
