The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is hiring! Join us in preserving what people care about most – access to the outdoors, natural habitats, open spaces, clean water, and safe infrastructure.

New River Trail State Park is accepting applications for the Maintenance Ranger Lead position at the Foster Falls location.

This skilled position supports the operation of the park through a range of duties including, but not limited to, performing and leading groundskeeper work which can include, but not limited to mowing, weed eating, leaf removal, landscape work, trash pickup around the grounds and roadside, etc. This level of employee has proven knowledge and will assist with minor equipment maintenance and equipment upkeep.

The position is also responsible for the occasional cleaning of buildings and restrooms within State Park facilities. This position will assist more skilled trades technicians with repairs as needed, which may include, but are not limited to, carpentry and plumbing issues. They may also be tasked with performing minor repairs by themselves without direct supervision. Other duties outside the scope of this description may be assigned to be completed by a Trades Technician II employee if it helps complete the overall mission of Virginia State Parks.

Questions should be referred to a higher level, and they work under immediate supervision with detailed verbal and written instructions.

• Perform and supervise janitorial duties, including cleaning park buildings.
• Perform and supervise facility and grounds maintenance, including but not limited to mowing grass, weed eating, and trash and litter removal.
• Operate equipment such as tractors
• Assist with facility inventory organization and provide accurate information for ordering parts and supplies.
• Assist with vehicle and equipment maintenance.
• Perform skilled facility repairs and skilled equipment repairs (small engine, diagnostic services, and provide support for trail/volunteer projects, independent project designs, and execution.
