The Superintendent, Health, Safety & Security (HSS) is responsible for providing field leadership and oversight of occupational health, safety, and security programs across Nevada Projects. This role drives the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety systems, risk management processes, regulatory compliance programs, and behavior-based safety initiatives to ensure all employees, contractors, and stakeholders work safely and return home healthy every day.
As a key member of the site leadership team, the HSS Superintendent partners closely with Operations, Construction, Maintenance, and Project teams to embed a proactive safety culture, strengthen risk management practices, and maintain compliance with MSHA, OSHA, and applicable state and federal requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesSafety Leadership & Culture
- Champion a strong safety culture through visible field leadership and active engagement with employees and contractors.
- Promote personal accountability, stop-work authority, and proactive hazard identification at all levels of the organization.
- Lead behavior-based safety programs focused on reinforcing safe behaviors and eliminating unsafe practices.
- Coach supervisors and managers in safety leadership, risk recognition, and incident prevention.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and operational discipline.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local health, safety, and security regulations, including MSHA requirements.
- Maintain current knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Serve as a designated signing authority for health and safety matters as required.
- Maintain accurate records and regulatory documentation to support inspections, reporting, and compliance obligations.
- Support regulatory agency interactions, inspections, audits, and compliance reviews.
- Lead formal risk assessment programs and field-level hazard identification initiatives.
- Manage fatal risk management and lifesaving controls programs across the operation.
- Analyze incident trends, leading indicators, and risk data to identify improvement opportunities.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action development.
- Maintain and utilize Safety Management Information Systems (SMIS) to track performance and risk exposure.
- Lead MSHA New Miner training programs and site-specific safety orientations.
- Deliver safety leadership, hazard recognition, incident investigation, and risk management training.
- Provide contractor safety orientation and monitor contractor compliance with company standards.
- Develop and maintain safety awareness campaigns, communications, and educational materials.
- Support succession planning and development of future safety leaders.
- Oversee employee medical monitoring and occupational health programs.
- Coordinate industrial hygiene monitoring programs related to air quality, noise, heat stress, chemicals, water quality, and workplace exposures.
