QA Specialist / Manager
The Quality Assurance Lead is responsible for overseeing and coordinating quality assurance activities to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations, as well as company policies. This role leads the implementation of food safety and quality plans, collaborating across departments to maintain the highest standards of product quality and safety. The Lead plays a crucial role in driving a culture of excellence and continuous improvement in quality assurance processes.
EssentialJob Functions
- Lead and mentor the quality assurance team, assigning tasks and ensuring performance standards are met
- Oversee compliance with USDA, company, and customer specifications
- Develop and implement quality control procedures and documentation systems
- Coordinate pre-operational sanitation inspections and ongoing monitoring of critical control points
- Manage product traceability, hold, and rework programs
- Oversee quality testing processes, including egg candling and environmental monitoring
- Analyze quality data to identify trends and areas for improvement
- Liaise with management to communicate quality issues and propose solutions
- Collaborate with operations to balance efficiency and compliance requirements
- Lead quality-related training programs for staff across departments
- Participate in audits and inspections, preparing necessary documentation
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in quality assurance processes
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Quality Assurance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 6+ years of relevant experience with at least 4 years of experience in food safety or quality assurance, preferably in egg processing
- HACCP certification
- Strong knowledge of USDA regulations and food safety standards
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Proficiency in quality management systems and data analysis
- Ability to work overtime, weekends and holiday hours as required based on production demand
- Master's degree in a relevant field
- Additional certifications (e.g., SQF, BRC)
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma)
This position involves both office work and significant time on the production floor. The role requires standing for extended periods, bending, and stooping to perform inspections and obtain readings. Exposure to various temperatures and noise levels in the processing environment is common. The Quality Assurance Lead must be comfortable wearing required PPE and working at a fast pace to maintain production schedules while ensuring strict adherence to safety and sanitation standards.
Some flexibility in working hours may be necessary to address quality issues or participate in production runs.
