How You’ll Make An ImpactWe are seeking qualified, experienced Archaeological Field Technicians/Monitors for various construction projects in Nevada and Utah. There may be opportunities to work on archaeological projects outside Nevada and Utah, primarily in California, Colorado, Texas, and Wyoming.
An archaeological field technician must possess basic archaeological field and laboratory skills for survey, excavation, laboratory, and construction monitoring work. Additional assignments may be available for qualified individuals who work well with our team. Competitive wages are based on education and experience.
Duties And Responsibilities- Archaeological survey, excavation, and monitoring
- On-site communication with construction and Native American personnel; maintain daily logs with detailed descriptions of construction activities, communication, and future plans
- Survey work: communicate with crew leader to verify instructions; scientific photography, measurement, artifact identification, and recording resources
- During excavation: collaborate with the team to ensure clear communication; identify buried resources and document them effectively
- Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology
- Completed an accredited field school certification
- Experience in archaeological survey within Arizona and recording various site and isolate types in this region
- Ability to safely operate a 4WD vehicle
- Physical ability to carry equipment and supplies (up to 40 lbs.) and walk or hike for long hours during fieldwork
- Willingness to travel to project locations for several consecutive days
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and active personal automobile liability insurance by first day of employment
- Completed an accredited field school certification
- Experience in archaeological survey in California, the Desert West, the Pacific Northwest and/or the Mid-Atlantic with recording of site and isolate types
- Experience with a wide range of field methods including pedestrian survey, testing/evaluation, and monitoring
- Ability to safely accommodate difficult weather and environmental conditions
- Ability to operate field equipment including GPS, cameras, and tablets
- Knowledge of ESRI Collector and/or Field Maps
$22.00 - $30.00 hourly*
Working Conditions- Outdoor or office-based environment; standard office equipment used
- Outdoor activity may involve walking/trekking in uneven terrain in extreme weather for long distances
- Project site visits outdoors with exposure to noise, uneven surfaces, extreme weather, and moving vehicles/equipment
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to perform the essential functions. This role may require:
- Working at a computer for extended periods in an office or remote setting
- Bending, squatting, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 35 lbs; 50 lbs with team lift
- Attending meetings in person or virtually
- Vision requirements including close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment
- Outdoor activity may involve walking/trekking in uneven terrain in extreme weather
