Overview
Job Title: Correctional Officer
The salary for this position is $24.48/hour, $1,958.40 bi-weekly, or $50,918.40 annually. Starting pay includes a shift differential for 2nd and 3rd shifts, plus annual merit increases. Training opportunities are available to support advancement.
Responsibilities- Observe incarcerated individuals, staff, and visitors; document observations to ensure security and consistent application of behavior-change principles.
- Interact with incarcerated individuals using behavioral techniques to promote problem-solving, behavior change, and pro-social attitudes; apply corrective measures when appropriate.
- Patrol facilities, conduct rounds and counts, and inspect areas for safety and security deficiencies.
- Search incarcerated individuals, vehicles, packages, equipment, cells, and property for contraband; instruct rules, procedures, and expectations toward pro-social adaptation.
- Escort incarcerated individuals, visitors, and staff; verify passes or legal documents; communicate with the public and victims as needed.
- Provide information, security, and assistance; model pro-social behaviors and support the belief that individuals can change.
- Maintain logs and prepare reports; enter information into the Department of Corrections electronic record system; supervise work assignments and evaluate performance.
- Operate security and communication equipment (doors, telephones, radios, alarms, CCTV, etc.).
- Attend training and professional development classes.

QualificationsMinimum Qualification
Graduation from high school, GED, or equivalency.
Additional Qualification Requirements
All applicants must be able to successfully pass the following:
- Psychological tests
- A background investigation check
- A post-offer health screen administered by an institutional physician
- A urinalysis drug screen
- All new employee training during the probationary period, including local orientation, new employee orientation, and emergency preparedness training
- Some designated positions require applicants to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and related endorsements within a timeframe determined by the appointing authority at the time of hire
