Student Safety Campus Monitor is responsible for the overall safety and security of the school. The role is physically demanding and involves defusing and de‑escalating student misconduct and serious incidents.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions- Inspects school and district property for safety hazards, vandalism, theft or burglary.
- Makes appropriate referrals for students not in class or without a legitimate reason to be on campus.
- Monitors student entry and exit, checks identification, enforces regulations.
- Provides emergency responses or assistance, administers first aid, completes required forms and reports.
- Notifies school administration regarding all emergency situations.
- Monitors buildings and grounds, checks windows, locks, doors and security systems for damage or breach.
- Prepares and maintains security logs; completes forms and reports in accordance with policies.
- Supervises, monitors and ensures safety of students as assigned.
- Effectively manages students under supervision, enforcing rules and policies.
- Assists the public by providing directions, answering questions, explaining rules, referring staff or providing necessary forms.
- Uses a computer to enter and retrieve information.
Non‑essential functions:
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Frequent contact with students, parents, teachers, administrators, law enforcement personnel, and other district staff members; and with subordinates to manage and coach.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Monitor and supervise students inside and outside the school site for long periods.
- Observe people and/or events and take appropriate action based on established procedures.
- Apply and enforce district rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Analyze situations accurately and recommend or take effective action in emergencies.
- Answer questions, provide information, and explain rules.
- Interact with people of various backgrounds.
- Maintain composure when dealing with resistant or hostile people.
- Act professionally and courteously.
- Display kindness, patience and firmness.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with students, teachers, law enforcement and district staff.
- Work harmoniously with supervisors, students and staff.
- Read and understand standard rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Possess knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, composition and spelling for narrative reports.
- Work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction.
- Interact diplomatically and professionally with the public.
- Communicate clearly using electronic communication devices.

- Possess basic computer skills.

- Follow oral and written instructions.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
Experience in supervising youth and performing personal safety and property security work; ability to work with high school students; high school graduation or equivalent; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Licenses / CertificatesValid Nevada driver's license;
Basic First-Aid and C.P.R. certification.
Strength, dexterity, coordination for keyboard and video terminal use; ability to lift 50-80 lbs daily; ability to stand, walk, push, pull, carry, balance; ability to use standard classroom equipment; communicate professionally with all members of the school community.
