Title: Student Safety Campus Monitor

Reports To: Site Principal

Terms of Employment: 172 Days

Salary Range: 14-A;
Employer/Employee paid $21.03 - $30.12

Employer Paid PERS: $17.70 - $25.33

Benefits: Nevada State PERS Retirement;
Employer paid Medical, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance;
No State Tax

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary of Position

The Student Safety Campus Monitor is responsible for the overall safety and security of the school. The Monitor plays a critical role in the school's culture and climate, maintaining a calm, structured, and positive learning environment. They actively engage in supporting students to succeed in the classroom and school community. The role is physically demanding, requiring first response to student misconduct and serious incidents with urgency.

Responsibilities

and Essential Functions
  • Inspect school property for safety hazards and evidence of vandalism, theft, or burglary.
  • Make appropriate referrals for students not in class or without a valid reason for being on campus.
  • Monitor student entry and exit, checking identification and passes as needed.
  • Enforce regulations and procedures to ensure safety of district property, personnel, and students.
  • Provide emergency responses or assistance regarding safety matters, administer first aid, and complete required forms and reports.
  • Notify school administration about all emergency situations.
  • Monitor buildings and grounds, checking windows, locks, doors, and security systems for damage or breaches.
  • Prepare and maintain security logs and reports on assigned shifts.
  • Supervise and ensure the safety of students as assigned by the Site Administrator.
  • Enforce school rules and district policies among students.
  • Assist the public by providing directions, answering questions, explaining rules, and referring to appropriate staff.
  • Use a computer to enter and retrieve information.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Monitor and supervise students inside and outside the school site for long periods.
  • Observe events and take appropriate action based on procedures.
  • Apply and enforce school district rules and policies.
  • Analyze situations accurately and make effective decisions in emergencies.
  • Answer questions, provide information, and explain rules.
  • Interact with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Maintain composure when dealing with resistant or hostile individuals.
  • Act professionally and courteously.
  • Display kindness, patience, and firmness.
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Work harmoniously with supervisors, students, and staff.
  • Read and understand standard rules and policies.
  • Use proper English grammar and spelling for reports.
  • Work independently with minimal direction.
  • Communicate clearly via electronic devices.
  • Maintain records, logs, and files.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Possess basic computer skills.
  • Plan and organize work.
  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
Acceptable Experience and Training

Experience supervising youth and performing personal safety and property security work; ability to work with high school students; high school graduation or equivalent; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

Licenses / Certificates

Valid Nevada driver’s license;
Basic First‑Aid and CPR certification.

Physical & Mental / Intellectual Requirements

Strength, dexterity, and coordination to use keyboard and display terminals; ability to lift 50‑80 pounds and perform repetitive tasks; flexibility to work in classroom and other settings; ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Employee Punctuality and Appearance

Employees must work all scheduled hours unless approved leave is received. All employees must arrive dressed to reflect a positive image of DCSD.
