At Long Lines Broadband, we have the job for you! We have an immediate opening for a Fiber Network Technician. This position is responsible for providing customer support and maintenance to broadband customers in their homes and businesses. This position will also splice fiber cables and cut terminals for new construction.

Location: Office located in Sergeant Bluff

Rate: $18.00-$24.00/hour

Full‑Time/Part Time: Full-Time

Responsibilities
  • Install, disconnect, upgrade, downgrade, make changes, troubleshoot, and repair customer‑provided services at residential and commercial locations.
  • Maintain broadband system by testing to locate trouble, opening cable to replace or repair defective sections and closing or sealing cable.
  • Educate customers in the services being provided and the proper use of equipment, propose solutions, and describe advantages of and sell additional services.
  • Maintain the integrity of our fiber optic network to ensure a best‑in‑class customer experience.
  • Install, monitor, test, and maintain telecommunications and associated electronic equipment both in technical facilities and on customer property.
  • Assemble, install, test, and turn up high‑speed transport equipment.
  • Conduct fiber locates, monitor construction activity, and work closely with outside plant engineering for planned construction and relocation.
  • Perform fiber splicing and termination for new builds and restorations on multiple types of cable.
  • Perform maintenance of new and existing circuits through troubleshooting and fault isolation techniques.
  • Utilize various types of test equipment to isolate and resolve customer circuit outages.
  • Coordinate test, turn up, and acceptance of customers’ service with all local and remote groups.
  • Understand DC and AC power.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record.
  • 1–2 years of CATV, fiber installation, or other relevant technical/electronic experience.
  • Able to install, troubleshoot, and repair customer products/services using knowledge of plant distribution, fiber systems, and customer equipment.
  • Ability to install and run fiber drops, interior fiber pathways, and terminate customer fiber services.
  • Able to locate and mark underground services using test equipment, plans, and database mapping software.
  • Splice and repair fiber, including fusion splicing, ribbon splicing, and prep fiber terminals for activation.
  • Knowledge and experience working with electronics, DC power, and fiber optic equipment.
  • Able to operate small hand tools, power tools, and test equipment.
  • Able to work independently and plan tasks to complete projects efficiently.
  • Strong computer skills in Word and Excel.
  • Able to accurately measure distances using tapes or other measuring devices.
  • Able to differentiate between different sizes and colors of wires/cables.
  • Ability to work in tight spaces including attics, crawl spaces, cabinets, utility closets, and telco rooms.
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with all OSHA, FCC, NEC, and local ordinances.
Working Conditions
  • Lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Walk over all types of terrain in all kinds of weather while carrying tools, equipment, and ladders.
  • Kneel, crouch, crawl, twist, pull, bend, push, and reach above head.
  • Work indoors in poorly ventilated areas such as attics during extreme heat.
  • Exposure to dust, dirt, noise, and insects.
  • On‑call rotation every 3 weeks.
  • Work schedules may adjust based on business needs.
