Mobile Diesel Technician II - DOT Management Level (Individual Contributor)

Job Overview

We are seeking a Mobile Diesel Technician II for our fleet maintenance team. The role is hourly (USD 26.73–40.10/hr), variable shift, and involves 100% travel in a mobile/field environment. Candidates must live in the specified city, state, or region and be able to work remotely as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Execute minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment using handheld computers, pressure gauges, and other test instruments; road‑test vehicles to verify proper operation.
  • Inspect, test, and listen for defective equipment; use diagnostic tools and work order (RO) application to record findings and parts used.
  • Manage parts inventory and equipment; perform periodic reconciliation on the company‑issued service truck.
  • Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle; conduct safety checks and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
  • Work independently, self‑manage daily schedule, prioritize tasks, and maintain high productivity.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks as needed.
  • Document all work per company standards; upload pictures and complete DOT forms in a timely manner.
  • Comply with safety, health, environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED (or higher degree plus 5 years of related experience). Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience.
  • Ability to possess and supply the necessary hand tools for the job.
  • Obtain ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months of hire.
  • Pass DOT‑regulated background screening and DOT physical; a valid DOT medical card with >4 months validity may substitute for the physical.
  • Must be at least 21 years old, hold a valid state driver’s license, and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
  • Valid, clean driver profile; safe driver required.
  • Preferred certifications: ASE T3 (Drivetrain), T4 (Brakes), T5 (Suspension), T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems), T7 (HVAC), 608/609.
