Maintenance Technician

Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor

Purpose of Position

Responsible for reviewing maintenance work tickets, scheduling site visits, and completing maintenance and repairs of swine facilities and equipment for Iowa Select Farms production sites.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
  • Adhere to ISF bio‑security policy at all times and report violations.
  • Adhere to ISF animal wellbeing policy and know reporting procedures when an incident occurs.
  • Adhere to ISF safety policies and procedures and wear appropriate safety equipment (PPE).
  • Follow company guidelines for vehicle usage.
  • Work closely with site managers and/or production supervisors to ensure all facilities operate at optimal levels.
  • Review open work ticket reports daily to schedule maintenance activities and ensure timely repairs.
  • Advise site managers and/or production supervisors when items can be repaired rather than replaced.
  • Utilize the ISF Tools work ticket system to track repairs, materials, and labor hours.
  • Prioritize maintenance requests to address high‑priority items first.
  • Be available to work in an on‑call rotation for weekend emergency maintenance.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in general construction methods including plumbing, electrical, carpentry and welding.
  • Repair and replace curtain systems.
  • Fabricate, weld and repair penning area.
  • Repair and replace feedline systems.
  • Repair and replace ventilation systems.
  • Repair and replace waterlines.
  • Clean up debris in and around sites; including power washing.
  • Repair and replace building roof, siding, ceilings or windbreaks.
  • Repair and replace hog paneling.
  • Repair and replace light fixtures and motors; as well as outlets.
  • Repair and replace heating and cooling systems.
  • Manage parts inventory as needed.
  • Complete repairs safely and accurately per manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Work with hand and power tools to complete necessary repairs.
  • Maintain equipment inventory levels on maintenance vehicles.
  • Shower in and out of facilities as required.
  • Attendance is critical; be at work on scheduled days and ready to start on time.
  • Be friendly, positive, helpful, team‑oriented, and respectful to co‑workers and management.
  • Flexibility in hours during health and staffing challenges is required.

Work Environment
  • Position performed indoors.
  • May require tasks in extreme outside weather conditions.
  • The environment changes daily based on schedule.
  • Duty in all facilities; must be comfortable working in various environments.
  • Noise level can be loud.
  • Frequent exposure to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations.
  • Potential contact with animals; bio‑security practices must be understood and consistently applied.
Physicality Requirements
  • Stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Lift up to 75 pounds and climb ladders and over gates.
  • Continuous repetition of necessary movements such as bending, lifting, and manual tasks.
Additional Requirements
  • Work independently with limited or no supervision; must be initiative, organized, dependable, and self‑motivated.
  • Ability to troubleshoot a wide variety of mechanical issues; mechanical mindset required.
  • Teamwork and good communication skills needed.
  • Basic computer and smartphone skills.
Position Type / Expected Hours of Work
  • Full‑time; typically at least 40 hours a week.
  • Additional availability may be required during staffing challenges.
  • Weekend and holiday on‑call rotations required.
Travel
  • Local travel via company vehicle.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required for events related to the position.
Education, Experience and Other Qualifications
  • Previous maintenance experience preferred but not required.
  • High‑level problem‑solving skills.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish; fluency in both written and verbal communication required.
