Water​/Wastewater Operator-in-Training - Carter Lake​/Crescent, IA

This position is primarily located in Carter Lake and Crescent, but will work closely with Silver City, Hastings, and Randolph.

• Maintenance and repair of treatment equipment.
• Collect and test water samples.
• Ensure important safety regulations are met.
• Record data and read gauges.

• Typically work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Physical aspects include a lot of walking, bending, stooping, crawling, crouching, lifting, pushing/pulling.
• Exposed to noise from machinery, unpleasant odors, malfunctioning equipment, confined spaces, and heights.
• Typically work during the day, and may be on-call for a one-week period with weekend rounds on a rotating schedule.
• Occasionally may have to respond to after-hour emergencies, such as sewer backups or water main breaks.
• Must communicate with a variety of audiences—from consumers to regulatory agency staff—thus a high level of customer service and tact is required.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean record.
• Strong mechanical knowledge and skill to replace/repair related equipment (meters, sewer/water lines, pumps & blowers); experience with various hand tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, shovels, etc.).
• Must live within a 10–30 minute radius of the facility.
• Self-motivated with strong organizational skills to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
• Strong commitment to providing professional customer service to ensure contractual obligations and city ordinances are followed.
• Team-oriented with good communication, willingness to assist, and ability to seek help when needed.
