Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Hydraulic Shovel Technician to join our dynamic field maintenance team. This role is pivotal in ensuring that our fleet of heavy equipment-including hydraulic shovels, drills, and excavators-performs at optimal levels to meet the rigorous demands of mining operations. The ideal candidate will excel in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining complex hydraulic systems and heavy machinery, contributing directly to the efficiency and safety of our operations.

As a key member of our maintenance crew, you will play a critical role in minimizing equipment downtime, helping to sustain productivity, and promoting a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Advanced Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Utilize your expertise to perform in-depth diagnostics on intricate hydraulic and electrical systems, accurately identifying issues such as leaks, component failures, or electrical faults.
  • Hydraulic Component Maintenance: Dismantle, repair, and replace vital hydraulic components including pumps, motors, cylinders, valves, and high-pressure hoses, ensuring they meet manufacturer specifications and operational standards.
  • Preventative Care: Carry out systematic inspections and preventive maintenance routines, including lubrication and wear analysis, to detect early signs of equipment wear and prevent unexpected breakdowns.
  • Technical Documentation Interpretation: Skillfully interpret hydraulic schematics, equipment manuals, and technical diagrams to guide maintenance and repair tasks effectively and safely.
  • Safety and Compliance Enforcement: Adhere rigorously to all safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) practices, and comply with OSHA and MSHA regulations to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Maintenance Record Management: Maintain precise records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and parts replacements, facilitating equipment lifecycle tracking and compliance reporting.
  • Collaborative Teamwork: Work closely with supervisors, engineers, and other technicians to troubleshoot complex issues and implement solutions that enhance equipment reliability.
  • Emergency Response: Respond promptly and effectively to equipment breakdowns during shifts, minimizing operational disruptions and ensuring rapid return to service.
Qualifications/Requirements Required Education and Training
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Completion of vocational or technical training in heavy equipment mechanics, industrial hydraulics, or a related field is highly preferred.
Experience and Technical Expertise
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of proven experience in the maintenance and repair of large hydraulic mining or construction equipment, preferably with brands such as Cat, Komatsu, or Bucyrus.
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of fluid power systems, hydraulic circuits, diesel engines, and electrical components commonly used in heavy machinery.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, hydraulic schematics, and electrical wiring diagrams.
Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a meticulous approach to troubleshooting complex mechanical and hydraulic issues.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
  • Exceptional physical stamina and dexterity to perform strenuous tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds and working outdoors in varied weather conditions.
  • Strong commitment to safety standards and best practices.
Additional Requirements
  • Must own and be able to maintain a comprehensive set of personal mechanical tools required for repair work.
  • Valid driver's license is mandatory; possession of a CDL and/or MSHA certification are advantageous and considered an asset.
  • Availability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and overtime as operational demands require.
