Some of the Regular Duties Involved:- Follow a checklist of inspection procedures
- Test drive vehicles to diagnose malfunctions
- Read and interpret diagnostic test results from diagnostic equipment
- Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, transmissions, engines, and other parts of vehicles
- Do routine maintenance, such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and parts
- Repair or replace malfunctioning components, parts, and other mechanical or electrical equipment
- Test-drive vehicles to ensure that they run smoothly after major repair
- Providing DOT inspection service
- Developing strong relationships with customers by earning their trust through repeat customer satisfaction
Mechanics communicate with customers, explaining repair needs, providing estimates, and answering questions.
Excellent customer service skills are essential.
Organization and Record Keeping:The Auto Mechanic maintains an organized work environment, keeps track of warranties, evaluates service and parts options, and accurately records repairs and maintenance performed.
Safety and Cleanliness:Mechanics maintain a clean and safe working environment, following safety protocols and ensuring proper disposal of hazardous materials.
Test Drives:The Auto Mechanic possesses a valid state driver’s license for conducting test drives after repairs.
Qualifications:Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required. Formal training from a technical school or community college is advantageous.
ASE Certification:ASE certification demonstrates expertise and proficiency in automotive repair.
Experience:Practical experience through internships, apprenticeships, or entry-level positions is valuable.
Skills :- Strong problem-solving abilities
- Mechanical aptitude
- Attention to detail
- Physical stamina (lifting heavy parts, bending, and standing)
- Familiarity with computerized diagnostic tools
- Excellent communication skills
- Good organizational skills
