Overview

This position will have hours varied day and evening hours based on institutional needs.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain offender records as outlined in ICIW/DOC policy, including documenting offenders’ progress, strengths, and collateral contacts.
  • Complete custody classification, assessments/updated assessments, sexual violence propensity assessments, and conduct/maintain reentry case plans.
  • Obtain court reports, complete the release process, and enter and retrieve computerized data (ICON and I-SMART).
  • Attend all classification meetings and prepare offenders for eventual release.
  • Meet with offender families, work with volunteers, track discharge dates, annuals, and process releases with a multidisciplinary team.
  • All Counselors are required to receive reentry Case Management and Gender Responsive training.
  • Counselors shall perform all case management duties and offender interactions in a gender-responsive manner.

Qualifications
  • Four years of full-time work experience in providing individual and group guidance and related counseling services in the areas of social, behavioral, educational, vocational and related program planning; or performing correctional, law enforcement, or jail administration duties involving community reentry preparation, pro-social behavior modeling, or supervision of individuals in work assignments.
  • A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described above), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.

Within a period of time after hire, as determined by the appointing authority, employees in this class may be required to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and endorsements.
