Position InformationSocial Worker II. Carries a full caseload of moderately difficult cases and, as required, increasingly difficult cases. Responsibilities include casework for child welfare and adult services, and may involve employment services. Provides referrals, administers services, uses community resources, and may determine eligibility for aid programs. Works independently under general direction.
Examples of Duties- Conduct interviews with clients, family members, and others to assess basic social, physical, and mental needs.
- Perform case studies, evaluate family information, and assess safety of children and adults.
- Assess reports of suspected abuse; may be required to work on‑call and provide information to law enforcement or district attorneys.
- Develop and carry out culturally sensitive treatment plans, assist clients and families to achieve case‑plan goals.
- Provide referrals to community resources and advocate on clients’ behalf.
- Assist applicants and recipients with available resources.
- Interpret agency policies, rules, and regulations for applicants and clients.
- Make home visits related to casework assignments.
- Prepare and maintain case records and databases; communicate decisions and case plans.
- Serve in court when required.
- Participate in staff development and training.
- Maintain client confidentiality and adhere to NASW Code of Ethics.
- Perform related duties as assigned, including crisis intervention and crisis assistance.
- Mentor staff, orient new staff, and provide training on cases.
Pattern 1:
One (1) year of full‑time experience in entry‑level social work case management in the Social Worker I classification in an Interagency Merit System (IMS) county.
Pattern 2:
One (1) year of full‑time social work case management experience AND thirty (30) college semester units or forty‑five (45) quarter units from an accredited college or university, including fifteen (15) semester units or twenty‑two‑half (22.5) quarter units in social welfare or related social/behavioral science.
Qualification includes direct case‑work management, assessments, investigations of abuse, court reports, and coordinating resources.
Supplemental Information- A valid driver license may be required; individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case‑by‑case basis.
- Positions may require pre‑employment screening, background checks and fingerprinting.
- Background checks are required and must be repeated every five years.
- All Plumas County employees are considered Disaster Service Workers and must complete FEMA training.
Temporary Social Services/Public Guardian hiring bonus program effective Jan 6 2026 to Jan 5 2027:
- $2,500 upon successful background completion and hire;
- $2,500 after successful probationary period and one‑year anniversary;
- $5,000 after second‑year anniversary.
