Position Overview:
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services seeks an organized, professional, and results‑oriented individual to serve as Permanency Specialist. Under general supervision, the position provides professional child welfare casework services to children and families, determining needs and coordinating placements in substitute care facilities. The role also conducts interviews with clients and professionals, obtains diagnostic information, and develops treatment plans.
Essential Functions- Provide professional casework services to children and families as a Permanency Specialist.
- Work with intact families and children in home and/or substitute care.
- Conduct interviews with clients and professionals to obtain information for diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Transport clients when taking protective custody, placing them in substitute care, or changing placement location.
- Prepare and maintain case documentation for planning, implementing, and evaluating services.
- Participate in case staffing, multidisciplinary diagnostic and technical staff conferences to assess needed services.
- Perform other duties reasonably within the scope of the job.
- Master’s degree in social work or related human services field with one year of directly related professional casework/case‑management experience; OR bachelor’s degree in social work with one year of related experience; OR bachelor’s degree in related field with two years of related experience.
The degree program must be accredited and approved by the Council on Social Work Education. Experience must relate to family preservation, reunification, adoption, youth development, counseling, or advocacy.
Conditions of Employment- Valid driver’s license, daily vehicle access, and vehicle insurance proof.

- Physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform duties.
- Work overtime, evenings, weekends, and 24‑hour on‑call as required.
