Position: SOCIAL WORKER 2
Location: Nevada

The Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) is recruiting for a Social Worker 2 in Elko, Nevada. This position is part of the Office of Community Living‑Intake (OCL) program, which provides coordinated case management and essential services to at‑risk elderly and people with disabilities across Nevada to facilitate community integration and avoid institutionalization.

Responsibilities
  • Provide case management services, including assessment, eligibility determination, development, implementation, and oversight of care plans.
  • Conduct home visits, monitor service delivery, evaluate client needs, track progress, and reassess client levels of functioning.
  • Develop and implement intervention strategies to meet client needs, such as alternative placement, job training, socialization, nursing services, legal and medical intervention, and financial assistance.
  • Identify and coordinate a network of services and resources from state agencies, community organizations, and private providers in mental health, substance abuse, rehabilitation, development, homemaking, financial assistance, and employment programs.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary team meetings to assess and plan protective services and address abuse, neglect, exploitation, isolation, or abandonment of vulnerable adults or children.
  • Document case activities, maintain written case histories, complete necessary forms, and prepare relevant correspondence and case reports.
  • Provide crisis intervention in office or community settings, respond to emergency calls, report neglect or abuse, and manage aggressive or hostile individuals following established protocols.
  • Act as a technical lead, providing training, guidance, and supervision to new or experienced Social Workers and non‑professional staff such as Family Support Workers and Administrative Assistants.
  • Perform related duties as assigned and work under limited supervision to execute the full range of duties described in the series concept.
Qualifications
  • Licensure or provisional licensure as a Social Worker, Clinical Social Worker, Independent Social Worker, or Associate in Social Work, plus one year of professional case‑management experience in a social work setting equivalent to a Social Worker I in Nevada State service.
  • Ability to assess and reassess client levels of functioning through interviews, use of assessment tools, evaluation of client resources, and determination of appropriate services.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations, state laws, and agency directives related to social services; understanding of cultural and social differences; and awareness of a range of social services providers in the community.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: establishing cooperative working relationships, building rapport, mediating conflict, and communicating effectively with individuals with emotional, mental health, or developmental challenges.
  • Competence in document preparation, case planning, use of personal computers, and assigned software systems.
  • Experience in crisis intervention, de‑escalation techniques, and responding to emergency situations.

Working knowledge of: principles, practices, and techniques of social work; case management practices related to the program assignment; investigative techniques.

General knowledge of: federal regulations, state laws, and agency directives applicable to social services; cultural and social differences that affect family relationships and social interaction; indicators and effects of human deprivation; public and private social services providers; collaborative case planning; de‑escalation and crisis intervention techniques; pregnancy, child birth, child care, and/or adult care; grief and loss issues; aging process and/or cognitive impairments;

gambling addiction; substance abuse; learning and intellectual, developmental, and/or physical disabilities; serious mental illness; court procedures.

Ability to: establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co‑workers and private/private service providers; conduct interviews; make assessments; home visits; maintain composure in confrontational situations; mediate and resolve conflict; communicate with individuals experiencing emotional or mental health challenges; prioritize and prepare case plans; apply interviewing techniques; develop and maintain a network of community resources; refer clients to appropriate services and follow up;

document case narratives and prepare reports to law enforcement and courts; respond to sensitive or emergency situations; operate personal computers and assigned software; assist clients and others with issues surrounding death, dying, and aging.
