Position: SOCIAL WORKER 1
Location: Nevada

Overview

The Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) is recruiting for a Social Worker 1 in Elko, Nevada. This recruitment may be used to fill current and future vacancies in the Office of Community Living
- Intake (OCL). Positions may be underfilled with opportunity for advancement after meeting minimum qualifications and favorable performance with endorsement of the appointing authority. The OCL program provides case management and essential services to at‑risk elderly and people with a disability to facilitate community integration and prevent institutionalization.

The mission of ADSD is to empower individuals and their support systems by providing resources for disabilities and aging — connecting Nevadans to services and improving their quality of life.

Responsibilities
  • Assess and reassess client levels of functioning by interviewing clients, family members, and other community contacts; utilize tests, inventories, and other assessment tools; review medical, legal and law enforcement reports; and evaluate client resources to identify the level of assistance needed and services appropriate to meet emotional, social, financial and health needs.
  • Develop and implement a case plan with intervention strategies to meet client needs, including alternative placement, job training, socialization, nursing services, legal and medical intervention, and financial assistance in accordance with federal and State regulations and budget constraints.
  • Locate and coordinate services and resources from other State agencies, community organizations, and private providers (e.g., mental health, substance use treatment, rehabilitation, developmental services, homemaking, financial assistance, and employment programs) relevant to client needs and case plan goals.
  • Provide ongoing case management through home visits, monitoring service delivery and quality of care, reassessing needs, tracking progress, evaluating plan effectiveness, and assisting clients in identifying strengths and barriers; collaborate with families, friends, attorneys, and multiple agencies to ensure continuity and prevent conflicting or duplicative services.
  • Organize multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings as needed to plan protective services, service delivery issues, or plan development for preventing, identifying, or addressing abuse, neglect, or exploitation; MDT may include representatives from education, law enforcement, and health services.
  • Document case activities and maintain written case histories; complete forms and prepare correspondence and case reports according to applicable policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
  • Provide crisis intervention in office or community settings, respond to emergencies, report neglect or abuse to proper authorities, and follow established protocols for handling potentially aggressive individuals. May provide training, guidance, supervision, or lead work to other Social Workers and supervise non‑professional staff as needed.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Under close supervision, function in a trainee capacity to learn to determine social service needs, develop solutions and case plans, and provide ongoing case management; progression to the next level may occur upon meeting minimum qualifications and with endorsement of the appointing authority.
Qualifications
  • Licensure or provisional licensure as a Social Worker, Clinical Social Worker, Independent Social Worker, or Associate in Social Work.
  • General knowledge of social problems requiring use of public and private community resources; philosophy of social work; ethics; dynamics of human behavior; confidentiality laws; client rights; case management practices; signs of substance abuse, mental illness, and domestic violence.
  • Ability to understand and respond to differences in human behavior caused by deprivation, abuse, and neglect; effectively interact with people from diverse backgrounds; work objectively with individuals who may be hostile or verbally abusive; recognize signs of abuse, neglect, or exploitation and report to authorities; communicate effectively in writing and verbally; read and interpret technical and legal documents and program regulations;

    perform arithmetic operations; assemble, analyze, and report data; organize and prioritize work; work as part of a team and independently; transport clients to services as needed; operate computer systems to enter, store, and retrieve data.
