This is a seasonal position for the school year. Schools are located in Valencia/Newhall. Program hours are between 9am - 2pm, Monday through Friday.
The Recess Sports Leader plays an important role in creating a fun, safe, and inclusive environment for students during recess and lunch periods. This position is responsible for organizing and facilitating recreational games and sports activities, encouraging positive student engagement, and promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy play.
Key Responsibilities:
Organize and lead age-appropriate games and sports activities during recess and lunch.
Referee games and ensure students follow rules and demonstrate good sportsmanship.
Engage with students in a positive, energetic, and encouraging manner.
Foster an inclusive environment where all students feel welcome to participate.
Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating respect, integrity, and leadership.
Help resolve minor conflicts and encourage positive peer interactions.
Ensure student safety by actively supervising play areas and following YMCA and school policies.
Collaborate with school staff and YMCA team members to create a positive experience for students.

Qualifications:
At least 6 months experience working with children.
Enjoy working with children in an active outdoor environment.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to lead groups, manage games, and engage students of varying ages and abilities.
Positive attitude, reliability, and enthusiasm.
Experience working with youth, sports, recreation, camps, or educational programs is preferred.
